MY PITCH: Doctor Who

I'm not *currently* a fan of "Doctor Who". Key word being *currently*.
I've seen a few episodes of it, enjoyed them overall, and I've been raised by the 2005 Revival Era of the show thanks to my Family being enjoyers of it. However, I could never fully get into it, primarily because it always felt like a *Homework-y* show, one that I needed to start with Season 1 of the Revival Era to fully enjoy, especially as the show continued into Beyond Season 10.
Maybe not, but especially with many of its plots centering around messing with Time, messing with Previous Doctors' stories, and even their Timelines, and an increasingly-wild fandom with both Good & Bad Faith discussions around the Franchise... it just felt like I should hold up until some future point to get to it.
Well... nowadays is a good time to support it. After several divisive story choices for roughly 7 years now, and the Main Show now losing viewership numbers causing a brief hiatus... now's the time for some reflecting and changes. Thankfully, they are already doing that, so here's my personal suggestions to help assist:
MORE ANIMATION:
Don't get me wrong, it does work in Live-Action, however in the recent season, they had an episode where the nain characters entered an animated format, and it was actually decently well-received, and I think I know why:
Doctor Who is the PERFECT story cocept for Animation, which is especially weird why there's barely any examples of it for the franchise.
With its overall cheerful humor and tone, creative time-period sci-fi shenanigans and much more, it definitely needs more Animation. Thankfully, they have announced a New Children's Animated Show for the Doctor Who Universe, which is a good start... but we can do more animation.
At a time where animation is still weirdly debated about how good and adult it can be, I think if "Doctor Who" did more Animated stuff, the medium and the show would get more appreciation.
Especially if they finally shorten *some* of the stories, so that way they're not all over 45 mins long... just sayin'.
MORE SPIN-OFFS:
Expanding beyond the Main Show is always a good move for any franchise. It helps bring more people into your world by having a variety of storytelling options available. And "Doctor Who" has many spin-offs already... yet not enough mainstream ones.
They are releasing their newest one, "The War Between the Land and the Sea" This Year at some point, and that Children's Animated Series I mentioned earlier, but there do seem to be so many aspects and elements to the World of Doctor Who, enough for both Live-Action and Animation to explore more of.
LESS HOMEWORK-Y FEELS:
Like I've implied earlier, this show has, especially recently, felt like I needed to know more backstory to feel caught up enough (aka, 'Homework-y'). Maybe I don't actually, I don't know, but it strongly feels like that, and I damn well know I'm not the only one that feels this way.
I think a solid way to move forward would be to either:
A) Truly treat/act like Every New Doctor is a New Entry Point for newcomers
Or (and don't kill me for this), B) Treat it like the "DCU".
For those not in the know, DC Comics has been trying to launch their own Cinematic Universe, ala MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), for decades now, and they're NOW starting to get their shit together. But, they're doing something interesting to make it work: It is a New Universe, but it will carryover Fan-Favorite Plot Points and even Casting Choices from a few previous, unconnected DC Movies & Shows... but just using those previous versions as inspiration for this Truly New Beginning Universe.
This is what I think the Whoniverse could maybe do: Soft-Reset itself in such a way that makes it so that it is a "Fresh Start", however it doesn't erase everything from the past. Just carryover fan-favorite elements from the past to this New Version, and treat it like, again, an even stronger New Entry Point.
These are just some brief thoughts I have about this situation. Just some ideas that, I think, should at least be considered.
